Volvo CE to Display Zero-Emission-Only Lineup at Bauma

Volvo CE will display an all-electric lineup at Bauma, including machines and power solutions, showing its commitment to zero-emission construction. The spotlight will be on the upgraded EC230 Electric Excavator, which is now capable of operating a full workday on a single charge, alongside two new battery-powered articulated haulers.

EC230 Electric Excavator: New generation updates

Building on its predecessor, the enhanced EC230 Electric offers an extended runtime of 7-8 hours per charge, powered by its 600V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 450 kWh – operators can now work a full day without interruption, making it ideal for noise-sensitive and environmentally restricted areas. Moreover, a peak motor power of 160 kW ensures a performance equivalent to diesel excavators, while fast charging capabilities allow the battery to reach 80% in just 1 hour with a 250 kW charger. Hydraulic efficiency is also improved by 10% and – when matched with additional features such as Volvo Active Control, On-Board Weighing and Dig Assist 2D and 3D.

“Our first-generation EC230 Electric provided valuable customer insights and market feedback which played a pivotal role in shaping the development of this new generation model. With improved runtime, advanced technologies and expanded capabilities, the new and improved EC230 Electric builds on its strong legacy to deliver even greater benefits to customers and operators alike.”

Volvo CE will present two battery-powered articulated haulers at Bauma: the A30 and the A40 Electric. They have a payload of 29 and 39 tonnes respectively and should be able to operate for four hours on a single battery charge.

The 29-tonne payload A30 Electric offers off-road capability, operator comfort and durability and is designed for electrified transport in quarrying, mining and construction. The electric motor has an output of 265 kW and the lithium-ion batteries have a capacity of 245 kWh. According to the manufacturer, an operating time of 4 to 4.5 hours without charging should be possible for most applications.

Fast charging is possible with an output of 350 kW. The electric hauler needs around one hour to charge from 20 to 80 per cent. Operators can check the charging status, machine hours and energy consumption on-site or remotely using Volvo CE’s My Equipment app.

The larger A40 Electric should have a similar operating time and fast charging time. In terms of payload, this model offers 39 tonnes. The engine output is 350 kW with a battery capacity of 350 kWh. Otherwise, the potential applications are basically the same.

Both electric models are based on Volvo CE’s updated hauler platform and are characterised by the same improved fleet management functions. The models feature advanced assistance systems to reduce the risk of accidents, improved visibility for safer operation and simplified maintenance operations for faster and easier servicing.

A limited number of the A30 Electric and A40 Electric will initially be available to selected customers in Europe from 2026, with Volvo CE planning to increase production in the coming years.
