New Michelin Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 Launched for Wheel Loaders

Michelin has launched the new Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 tyre, designed specifically to deliver the high performance required by the latest generation of mining and quarry wheel loaders.

Michelin has introduced a new tyre, Michelin Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25, following the initial version Xtra Power L5*** 35/65 R33 in 2021. This new size complements Michelin’s tyre offerings for loaders.

“The MICHELIN Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 can handle the most challenging working environments, while delivering optimised load capacity and improved torque transmission in a stable, comfortable and safe manner.”

This is how Clifford de Jager, Michelin’s CES Technical Manager, describes the tyre. The new Michelin product is designed to meet the demands of face work, block handling, and operations that subject the tyre to extreme stress. It enables an increase in load capacity of up to 18.5 tonnes, which is 23% more than the previous generation, also thanks to the fact that this new size can be used at pressures of up to 7.5 bar, improving machine stability by 20%.

It withstands abrasive soils and aggressive surfaces and makes it easier to move over mixed ground such as stones, debris and rock, thanks to an innovative structure. It features a curved profile and improved support for the rubber blocks, which reduce stress on the contact area and maximise protection. The tread and shoulders have been reinforced to provide stronger protection against damage. Torque transfer is improved thanks to an enlarged bead heel.

Designed for tough mine and quarry applications, the MICHELIN Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 pairs increased load capacity with more efficient torque transmission.
