Liebherr-Australia has officially opened its new training centre in Perth, Western Australia, giving customers, support teams and mining professionals a dedicated facility for practical and technology-enabled training.
The centre was presented to customers and industry peers during an exclusive evening held on 27 August, with guests able to experience the facility’s simulators, technical training tools and workshop areas firsthand. The opening comes as mining equipment becomes more complex, with operators and maintenance teams increasingly required to work with automation, remote operation, advanced diagnostics, electrification and sophisticated machine systems.
The new facility is intended to support the development of those skills across the Australian mining sector.
“Automation, remote operation, advanced diagnostics, electrification and increasingly sophisticated machine systems are changing the skills required to operate and maintain mining equipment. We have a responsibility to make sure the people working with that equipment have the knowledge, skills and confidence to get the best from it – safely, reliably and productively,”

The Perth centre includes a spacious administrative building with three dedicated training rooms. These rooms house machine simulators for the T 264 mining truck, the R 9350 excavator and the R 9800 excavator, along with diagnostic simulators used for technical training.
Alongside the classroom and simulator areas, the facility also includes a 1,250 m² workshop. This space contains physical Liebherr equipment and engines, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience with the systems they are expected to support in the field.
For mining customers, the combination of simulation and practical workshop training is particularly relevant. It allows operators, technicians and maintenance teams to build familiarity with machine systems in a controlled environment before applying that knowledge on site. For support teams, it also creates a structured setting for technical development around diagnostics, maintenance and equipment operation.
“We designed this facility to give technicians, operators and maintenance teams access to structured, practical training supported by Liebherr people, systems and technology,”
Wilson said.
During the official opening event, customers and industry peers saw demonstrations of the excavator simulators, a LiReCon teleoperations stand for the PR 776 G8 dozer and LiDIA engine diagnostic software. The evening also included entertainment, networking opportunities and an opening address from Trent Wehr, managing director of Liebherr-Australia.
The training centre also gives Liebherr-Australia capacity to expand its programs beyond existing training needs. The company said there are plans to introduce onboarding programs for apprentices, together with courses covering electrical principles, programming and the fundamentals of hydraulics.
For Liebherr-Australia, the investment is positioned as part of a longer-term approach to supporting mining customers as equipment and jobsite requirements continue to evolve.
“For Liebherr, this facility is another demonstration that we are here for the long term. The machines and technologies we will be supporting into the future will continue to change. We need to be developing the skills for that future today,”
