Liebherr R 966 crawler excavatorreplaces the R 964 C and offers greater comfort, productivity and profitability.

  • Suitable for quarrying, mining and bulk earthmoving applications
  • Complies with Stage IIIA / Tier 3 / CHINA III exhaust emission limits

Liebherr exhibits its R 966 crawler excavator in the 70-tonne size class. The machine has been designed for demanding work in the quarrying and mining industries and for bulk earthmoving tasks. The R 966 is the successor to the popular R 964 C. Powered by a Liebherr V8 engine, the R 966 achieves a rated output of 320 kW / 435 HP. This engine complies with Stage IIIA / Tier 3/ CHINA III exhaust emission limits.
The rear view camera is standard equipment, and the crawler excavator offers various optional protective devices and systems for quarrying work: FOPS and FGPS, piston-rod protection for stick and bucket cylinder and protective covers for lubricating hoses and slewing gear.
The machine has a cab design with ample space for the operator, ergonomically laid-out switches and controls as well as an air-suspended, heated seat as standard equipment. The unique touch display from Liebherr makes it easy to operate the controls intuitively, select the preferred working mode, function or attachment and also access a series of functions for maximum operating convenience. The windscreen and skylight are made of impact-resistant glass, for even more thorough operator protection during quarrying and similar work. The equipment with cast steel components has a greater resistance for a longer service life. Safety check valves for stick and boom cylinders with integrated regeneration translate into less fuel consumption.

The 70-tonne R 966 crawler excavator has been designed to meet the stringent requirements of the mining and quarrying industries. Mounted on a HD fixed-track gauge undercarriage that withstands severe loads, it ensures a long, trouble-free life. A LC-V variable-track gauge undercarriage is available as an option. The backhoe bucket is designed with different levels of protection to suit the different areas of application. It is also equipped with the new Liebherr ‘Z’ self-sharpening tooth system for the best possible ground penetration over a long operating period.
For safe and easy access when maintenance work is due, the R 966 has catwalks on the left and right of the upper frame and a platform inside the engine compartment, so that daily maintenance can be performed easily and safely. These catwalks also allow an easy access to the operator’s cabin.
